MADD's POEM
The following poem has been circulated by MADD.  This poem is so sadly repeated over and over again every year.  Please take a moment to read it, copy it, read it to your young teens not once but often.  If your local school has a SADD (now known as Students Against Destructive Decisions) organization encourage your students to join and to participate in their schools Red Ribbon Week.

WENT TO A PARTY, MOM. . .
I went to a party, And remembered what you said.
You told me not to drink, Mom, So I had a sprite instead.
I felt proud of myself, The way you said I would,

That I didn't drink and drive, Though some friends said I should.

I made a healthy choice, And your advice to me was right,

The party finally ended, and the kids drove out of sight,

I got into my car, Sure to get home in one piece,

I never knew what was coming, Mom Something I expected least.

Now I'm lying on the pavement, And I hear the policeman say,

The kid that caused this wreck was drunk, Mom, his voice seems far away.

My own blood's all around me, As I try hard not to cry.

I can hear The paramedic say, This girl is going to die.

I'm sure the  guy had no idea, While he was flying high,

Because he chose to drink and drive, Now I would have to die.

So why do people do it, Mom, Knowing that it ruins lives?

And now the pain is cutting me, Like a hundred stabbing knives.

Tell sister not to be afraid, Mom Tell daddy to be brave,

And when I go to heaven, "Daddy's Girl" is on my grave.

Someone should have taught him, That it's wrong to drink and drive.

Maybe if his parents had, I'd still be alive.

My breath is getting shorter, Mom I'm getting really scared.

These are my final moments, And I'm so unprepared.

I wish that you could hold me Mom, As I lie here and die.

I wish that I could say, "I love you, Mom!" So I love you and good-bye.

Remember more rodeo contestants are killed by drunk drivers than by injuries in the arena!

Each year more rodeo contestants are killed by drunk drivers and those under the influence of other drugs than die from injuries in the arena.  In recent years driving home in the early morning hours from an event has become more dangerous than getting on a 2000 pound bull!  After the loss of Rodeo Attitude member, Chad Carlson, Rodeo Attitude along with his family decided to initiate a special program in his memory.   The goal of the program, Chad Carlson Memorial - Cowboys Against Drunk Drivers is to raise awareness of the dangers of driving drunk.  Over the last four years hundreds of Chad 2000 stickers have been distributed and placed on vehicles. These stickers serve as a reminder to think before you drink and drive.  Our members are encouraged to spread this message especially to the youth that they meet down the rodeo road and while making personal appearances.

Chad Carlson Award - Chad was the vice-president and a strong supporter of Snow Bull, the annual bull riding held in Burlington, Iowa.  In 2001 the Snow Bull committee began honoring one person with the Chad Carlson Memorial Award for their contribution to the sport Chad loved so much.  With the help of Rodeo Attitude vice president and owner of White Buffalo Productions, Todd Crase, this award has been continued.  To date this award has been presented to:
2006 Jimmy Twedt Bull Rider
2005 Shawn "Boom Boom" Thompson, rodeo clown and cancer survivor
2004 Tom Walzxe, Snow Bull committee man
2003  Tiny Ray, announcer
2002  Craig "Cappy" Mally, Cowboy Poet
2002  Waylon Perry, Perry's Pyros
2001 - R. Todd Crase, owner White Buffalo Productions
